Sue,

I've been reading the emails you have forwarded from other recent owners and it seems that those who are having problems with their puppies howling and are losing sleep are those who are crate training. I too am not a proponent of crate training and have therefore  given Sundance pretty much full roam of the house as the other two dogs have. We have not experienced any howling at all. NONE. The first few nights I selfishly wanted Sunny to sleep with us because I thought she would feel safer and be more comfortable and of course I wanted to hold her. After the second night she wanted no part of our bed and chose a spot on the floor in the den that is not carpeted. The den is on the other side of the hall to our bedroom so she is nearby. She usually sleeps ther or sometimes on the floor in our bedroom.

She has not woken us up at all. I typically wake several times during the night  any way,so when I do, I get up to see where she is and get her to go out . I usually either have to wake her or she wakes up because she hears me. After she comes back in from outdoors, we play and cuddle for a minutes ( honestly that's all ) and she goes right back to sleep. Once, she did wake on her own and came looking for me and woke me up. Bill, by the way, sleeps through it all and has not been disturbed at all.

The other night when I went to check on Sunny she was actually sleeping in her own bed in that " shameless" position we know some of them prefer. She looked so funny I was tempted to wake Bill so he could see her.  I'm sending this only to you to  share with others as you think appropriate. I know that everyone has their own way of doing things and I don't want to offend anyone  but I felt compelled to let you know that my household is as well rested as we were before Sunny came.
