Here is our little "Rosebud" catching Sarah - not that she was trying too hard to escape! |

Princess is one of two pups we have raised who have been deaf, both have responded excellently to hand signals and their families have developed a safe environment where everyone is happy.
I just wanted to tell you personally how wonderful Sue and her family are. I was also nervous and skeptical about buying off the internet but after many conversations with Sue, she had me comfortable and reassured that she was the best "Puppy Mom" for us. She certainly delivered in the form of our beautiful Princess who just celebrated her first birthday on January 5th. Princess is still the nutty puppy she was a year ago but she is an absolute darling. She is my daughter Sarah's, (she's 7), favorite playmate - submitting to the doggy indignity of wearing hats, scarves and necklaces and the occasional tiara. After all she is a Princess! Actually DIVA is more like it but then again we spoil her. Everyone who comes into contact with her loves her and she is very good with kids, adults and other animals. We have a rabbit who has also become friends with her. Of course Smokey makes sure Princess doesn't forget who ruled the house first but they get along just fine. Princess is my second OES, our first, Einstein, died after 14 wonderful years. Once an OES has owned you (yes I did mean it that way) you'll never get another breed. They are the most beautiful, good tempered, kid friendly puppies I've ever known. Some folks don't like that they tend to attach themselves to you and follow like a shadow complaining they're too needy but they are herding dogs - that's their job. My Einstein attached himself to Sarah when she was born, slept by her crib, watched over her when she was playing on her blanket, always hung out next to the high chair (Free yummies!). He was her major protector whenever we were outside or someone came in the house he didn't know - he would stand in front of her or lay in front of her in the front yard when I had her outside to play so he was always right there waiting to jump on anyone who bothered his "baby". Princess is the same way. She follows me around all day while Sarah is at school but as soon as she's home - she's with her big sister. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. We always love talking about our little Princess. Roann

I think Princess may have been hiding her true inner self by you. She
is hardly the delicate little "rosebud". She's 6 pounds of loony
puppy! Boy when she gets going she's hard to calm down. I've never
been a big fan of crates and she didn't seem to like it - maybe the plane ride -
but since she needed to be confined, I bought an exercise pen which is set up in
the kitchen. We tried it for a short time when we were out last Sunday and
she was fine. Monday she was fine while we were at school/work. On
Tuesday - well, she decided to test her mom. We walked in the door and
Sarah stopped and said "look mommy" and there was her angelic self on
my couch sound asleep. She had played with the bottom latch on the pen
enough that she

She's so smart, it's scary! Incredible too that there wasn't one thing chewed, pooped on or piddled on. Even though she got out, she behaved herself. Still, I've got to find a better latch or we'll be in trouble. She's such a biter. I've really been working on her to teach her gentle from too rough but she has this thing about going after my husband's feet and ankles. She seems to go after him most of all. I'm not sure why. I tried saying no sharply. I tried a light tap on the nose. Now I have a little spray bottle that I give her a little squirt of water if she doesn't stop. It seems to get her attention enough that she calms down. I have three books on puppies and they all contradict each other as far as what to do. Any other suggestions? It's amazing too that you can tell when she needs a nap, just like a human baby. She gets cranky and over wound and I have resorted to holding her upside down with her gummy bone like a pacifier like holding a baby with a bottle and she will calm down and then go to sleep. She's going to get a little heavy for that soon enough. She is learning things, just a little overwhelming, I guess. She has learned to go get her tennis ball and then bring it back to be rolled off again. She doesn't always give it when you say give but she's getting the idea. She's doing great on the housetraining too. She hardly has any accidents. I keep telling myself, Patience, Patience. Any advice you can give is always appreciated. Even with our little difficulties, I wouldn't know what to do without her. Thank

Just wanted to let you know how well Princess is doing. She's absolutely amazing. Within the first hours of being here she figured out where her food and water bowls were, finally realized that the refrigerator wasn't the door to "out", found the little bed we made for her to rest in. She's so smart it's incredible. She's so much like a newborn baby. She gets a little rough (biting) and cranky before she needs a nap. Wakes up in an adorable haze. Since Thursday, she's only had maybe a dozen little accidents in the house. Most times she's asked to go out. (This is much too easy - I hope it lasts) She's trying to make friends with Smokey ( our rabbit ). She did okay until she tried to nip Smokey. Smokey wasn't having any of that. She gave her a bop on the head. Just so you know, Smokey isn't much smaller than Princess. They're probably evenly matched now. We had another Kodak moment today too. Sarah came out of the bathroom after her bath and Princess got a hold of her towel. Almost had naked kid in the hall! Princess kept crying at the door of the bathroom while she was in there so I had to bring her in to see. She kept trying to get in the tub, too. I bought her an exercise yard which is what I'll keep her confined in the kitchen with. I just can't see her or any of them being happy in that little crate. She has plenty of room to play, to sleep on her towels and her food and water is there. Tomorrow is the test - let's see if she's an A student. Hope all is well with you. Roann
