Hi Sue,

Wishing you and your family a very happy, healthy New Year.

Hope all is well with you and your family and that you had a great Christmas with your beautiful granddaughter.

Thought you'd enjoy seeing our handsome Riley.  Hard to believe he's 4 years old already.  He goes for his yearly check- up on the 9th.  I'll let you know how he does.  He's still the love of our lives, our gentle, loving little boy.  We've had lots of snow so he's a happy guy being able to play in the snow. We just are so truly blest to have such a loving well behaved dog. He had a ball Christmas Day playing with all the grand children and my son's two Golden Retrivers. Needless to say he was a pretty tired pup and slept all  the next day.

Take care Sue and let me know how you are doing.

Regards,

Martha, Frank & "Riley"

Hi Sue,

Thought you'd enjoy this picture of Riley and his (twin).  We found this statue of a sheepdog on one of our travels up North.  Thought it looked so much like Riley, just had to have it.  We had Riley with us at the time and the people in the Nursery all had to come out and see the real Sheepdog.  The fire hydrant was just for laughs.  Riley thinks the statue is pretty neat.

We just returned from a week's visit to my brother's in Virginia.  As usual Riley had a fantastic time.  We took very long walks everyday and met more and more of the neighbors, who stopped us every time to visit with Riley.  He had a ball with all the attention.  The trip takes us 9 hours and he is just a doll during the whole trip.  The only problem we have is when we stop at a rest area, people stop us to admire and play with Riley so we end up being there longer than we had planned.  This week we have three of our grandsons visiting and again Riley is in seventh heaven with all the attention.

How are things by you.  Are you a Grandmother yet?  This will be the best time of your life.  Also how is your husband doing?  Hopefully, all is going well.  Take care.

Hi Sue,

Loved hearing about Ziggy, and that now he is doing so well.  As I said before I got the runt of the litter, but he's been an absolutely wonderful pup.  He has always been loving and affectionate and after training school became a really well behaved pup.  It took a lot of work in the beginning to get him to mind but it has been all well worth it too.  And like Ziggy he loves everybody and everything.  We've also had a tremendous amount of snow and we also have a hard time keeping Riley in.  He just loves to play in the snow too. Guess they are all alike there.

We are now trying to leave him home more and more to get him used to not going with us when the weather starts to get warm.  He's not a happy camper about it and on our return just won't leave us alone.  We have to love him to pieces and reassure him we really do love him. Then he will get up on the couch with me and lay his head in my lap and go to sleep, content that we are now home with him.  (My baby, and spoiled at that).

Take care and regards to all the other families and all your new families.

Hi Sue,

Riley had his checkup today and second shots.  He weighed in at 15lb 7ozs and was the darling of the Vet's Office.  They don't see sheepdogs that often so everyone coming and going plus the staff made a big to do over him.  He just loved it. Everything was A okay.

He's coming along pretty good.  We have gotten  him to sit on command, and are working on his coming when we call him.  He's a little stubborn on that one.  He has truly settled in here and thinks he's King.  He loves roaming in the yard and investigating everything.  He has boundless energy for a pup, always wants to play and run. Loves being with people, children and other dogs.  Our grandchildren are either here to visit him or we take him to visit them.  I don't have a scanner yet but have taken pictures and will send you some.

From the copies of e-mails you have sent it seems like everyone is pleased as we are with their pup(s). We tell everyone that asks where we got him what a great job you've done Taking care of and advertising your pups.  Keep up the good work.

Hi Sue,

So nice to talk to you last night.  Riley (still don't have a permanent name) is doing very well.  Played with two of our grandchildren last night, and had a ball.  He cried a little last night, Frank got up at 5:00a.m. to let him out, played with him, fed him, and then they both fell asleep.  After his breakfast this morning he went out again & roomed our  yard with Frank while I made our breakfast. Frank taught him how to catch & carry a Frisbee.  He picks up things very well.  I noticed that when he and Frank were walking in the back yard every time Frank stopped (Riley?) stopped & sat.  Did you teach him that?

Then it was bath time (didn't get a chance to give it to him last night with all the company).  He took that very well and has been sleeping ever since. He looks even more beautiful now that he's had his bath.  We love him so much already.  He seems to have a very sweet disposition.
Three more of our grandchildren are coming today to visit and then the last two grandchildren will probably be here tomorrow.

Again our thanks for such a beautiful puppy.

Martha

Hi Sue,

Just read about poor Leo.  Riley goes tomorrow for his neutering.  I sure hope he does okay after hearing Leo's horror story.  I'll find out tomorrow how much he weighs.  We figure around 50lbs. or so.  He has slackened off with his eating and takes more time to eat now.  Seems once he hit 6 months old he even has slowed down a little.  Not so frisky as he was before.  he loves to cuddle up with me on the couch in the morning while I have my morning coffee.  Had to babysit one of my grandson's yesterday as he had strep throat.  Riley just loved having him here and cuddled with him all day.  Today he seems sad that he doesn't have a kid to hang around with.  He is usually out in the yard all day with Frank while Frank is working on a backyard garden for me.  He just loves to help.  Talk to you tomorrow and will let you know how Riley does.  I also wouldn't consider this, however, our licenses are a fortune if the dogs aren't neutered or spaded and I really didn't want to bred Riley.  Hopefully, all will be okay.  I have a great Vet so I will keep my fingers crossed.

Received your message. Just have to let you know Riley's Puppy Class has been changed to April 11th. I'll keep you posted as to how he is doing.
We took him shopping with us yesterday & everyone who went by our car stopped to see him. Then I took him for a walk last night & the same
thing happened. I didn't get to far when neighbors stopped me to play with him.

So much for our exercise. Frank takes him walking early in the morning for exercise, then we play with him later in the yard.   We are just so pleased with the way you have raised these pups. They all seem so gentle & lovable. When people ask me where I got Riley I get the chance to brag about you & what a great time we have keeping in touch.   We have never experienced anything like this with our other sheepdogs. Someday we would love to take a trip to Saskatoon & visit your farm & let you see Riley in person. You should be really proud of your accomplishments with these pups. I'm sure everyone else is telling you the same thing.

Best regards,
Martha, Frank & Riley

"Riley's family in CT have received so many compliments on how well behaved Riley is, his owner Frank passed on this tip to other puppy families when Riley was still small. If your pup responds better to one person than another, or isn't listening to your reprimands, try putting coins in a tin can, seal it up and when he needs telling off just shake the can to him. For Riley it got so as they just had to reach for the can on a shelf and he knew to behave! Many of our families have found it works every time! Thanks Frank."
