Located on forty acres on the South Saskatchewan River, our Old English Sheepdogs run freely, they are all very sound temperament, different personalities and a variety of markings and coat. We also raise Belgian Blue Cattle and the dogs all work very well around the livestock.  We also have horses and all of the dogs always accompany the kids going riding on horseback or walking along the river bank.

All dogs on our farm are typical of Old English Sheepdogs, they are very loyal, not just to our family but to visiting friends, they always accompany the children where ever they go. This is very comforting as the reason was because we lost two bred cows to a cougar attack just a few meters from the deck of our home. Our children play in the bush building forts etc. and the dogs are always laying beside them. The same thing when I am gardening, they are always at my side - although when they are just a few months old you can expect to plant your garden two or three times at least!  Although all of our dogs are house trained,  they live outside and just come in the house to have their pups.

"2006 is  a transition year for me and at this time I am planning on Bragi and Buri staying here on the farm, along with Freya enjoying her retirement. Sif is also retired and living a life of royalty with  our youngest son and coming home at every opportunity".

Daily Activities

Each day we go for a long walk, maybe we take the country road, maybe east or west along native prairie, either way the dogs get to run off their energy and play many games.  Different seasons and direction of wind often determine the path we take. Here are some photos of our daily routine.

When one dog finds a scent they all have to go and check out the discovery.

As I take the dogs for a walk I benefit from the exercise probably more than they do, they also teach me to keep life in perspective and take time to "smell the roses"

We are very fortunate to have property on the river, with lots of trees and bush as well as the open prairie.

On hot summer days we all take a dip in the river in the afternoons, its quite a site to see all the white heads swimming and then running on the sandbars. Every one of the dogs is a strong swimmer thanks to our kids and their friends who teach them all to swim.

Thrud loves to sit on the picnic table or on steps to the deck in this position, she stayed like to for hours and it looks so uncomfortable to me!

Fall time we have lots of fruit in the orchard, the dogs love to eat the fruit, apples and berries that grow easily within their reach. Here you see the dogs laying around while I pick apples.

When sunbathing just isn't relaxing enough then its time to lay in the hammock, Bragi has perfected the art of balancing in the hammock, after hours of practice and hundreds of times tipping out.

Seasons change and winter is rather drafty on the hammock, this is when the game of tag moves to the picnic table.
