"Our pups are not registered although all pups are sired by a registered OES, they are bred for their wonderful disposition and not for showing or breeding. They are all sound temperament, and healthy in all respects. They are smart, intelligent and very loving, they have a natural instinct to protect - though not in an aggressive way. They can be trusted with the youngest of children and seem to know to be extra gentle.

Guarantee

We guarantee for the life of each pup to be of sound temperament and we will provide a replacement pup for any dog that develops any hereditary health problem, as confirmed by a veterinarian.

Hip Dysplasia is the #1 health concern for OES. We have done our very best to try to ensure this problem will not occur in any of our pups, however, with the very best of breeding it can still arise and therefore we give you our guarantee. To verify that our dogs have been checked here are their Hip x-ray results.

Freya Loki and SIf have all been retired from breeding. Loki has been adopted by Sharon and family in Abbotsford, they will also be adopting Hel, Lokis daughter early in 2006. Buri continues to sire all pups for spring litters from Bragi, Fulla, THrud, Eir (Sifs daughter) Hel and Saga.  All dogs have been checked regularly for hips and elbows and certificates are posted online as well as for Thyroid, Heart and eyes. You may click on appropriate certificates elbow and print out for your records.

Freya

  freya.gif (143480 bytes)

Here you see Freya nursing her pups when they are six weeks old and already feeding independently, though they still like five minutes on mum if she gives them the chance.

You can notice it is spring time an her coat is starting to shed. I clip all of our dogs around Easter and again in mid summer.

Freya (God of Spring and Love), and Loki (god of Mischief), these two females are from Manitoba, they are the smallest of our dogs, now 6 years old. Their good nature is very obvious when you see them both nursing each others pups!

Freya and Loki both show their affection by grinning and gnashing their teeth as though they are laughing - although strangers may need reassuring that they are actually happy to greet them. They are both extremely strong swimmers and love the river. Their coats are almost identical, both a medium grey.

Freya has a white splotch on her behind and Loki has a white "zig zag" on hers.  They each have one grey ear, their pups often have one black ear or an all white head.

Loki

Here it is amazing that Loki's pups can still
find her teats with no problem.

Sif

Sifnew.jpg (105978 bytes)

The youngest of our six dogs, Sif (God of Earth and Harvest) is almost four years old. She has a very prominent black outline around both eyes and very thick "polar bear" type fur, Her coat is very light silvery grey with two grey ears.

Sif is very quiet temperament and very gentle disposition. She is as playful as when she was 8 weeks old.  She is undoubtedly the very best mother to her pups, she watches their every move and is constantly playing with them.

The dogs all love to wrestle and play quite rough together.
They also know that our teenagers love to encourage them whilst the older generation does not approve of any jumping.

Idun

Idun - Goddess of Youth or "Rejuvenating One", Idun was one of Freya's pups, born November 2001, sired by Monty, she has a wonderful gentle disposition and she is the most vocal of all our dogs, she is learning at an incredibly young age how to "ask" for anything she wants and doesn't abuse her ability to get attention by her voice. She is incredibly smart and quick to learn, as well as being cute as can be.

Bragi

Goddess of Poetry
Born February 2002

Bragi is committed to have fun, life is a game and she loves every minute of it. We can all go for a walk and only Bragi shows any visible signs of where they have been exploring. If the garden sprinkler is on, she is going to play in it, then she comes back to you with that look on her face that says "What makes you so sure it was me in the sprinkler ..."

Thora

Goddess of Fertility

Thora is expecting her first litter of pups in July, she is often showing her gentle smile, just like our oldest OES Odin used to do.  She is the largest of our females and very loving.

When Thora produced a pup with hip problems she was immediately spayed and then adopted by Joelyn & Paul in Minnesota, to see how Thora is pampered in her new home.

Hel

Daughter of Loki (and she is), is definitely going to become the largest female here on the farm, at 4 months she weighs in at 40lbs!  She is very attentive, full of fun and very gentle with children. Everyone loves her to bits!

Eir

Goddess of Healing

Eir is the third brindle pup we've had born to Sif.  Researching the history of OES, someone, when founding the OES breed registry, stated "all shades of brown are to be discouraged".  With this in mind I believe the brindle coloring was in fact more common in years gone by. The pups born with this color have matured with coats that appear to be silver grey and frosted at the end of each individual hair tip like white frosting. They really are amazing eye stoppers - or as one of our OES families college sons declared, "This pups is a Chick Magnet!". (See Frisco and Simon on our descendants page). For this reason I decided to try and bring back this impressive coloring by keeping a female for breeding in the future.  Eir is also the only OES where we have not cropped her tail - just to see what it would be like. Without the docked tail she does not look like a Bobtail!  But also she does not run into things or make the clumsy maneuvers that OES are known for, I believe this is because the tail acts as a rudder improving their balance.

Buri

The First God
Born May 2002

Buri's nickname was "Mellow Yellow" from his breeder, he is so very quiet, gently and affectionate, he is now breeding all females on our farm, he is the most gentle laid back male anyone could wish for.

Fulla

Fulla, one of 12 divine goddesses in Norse mythology, she is aid to have taken care of Friggs shoes. Fulla loves to carry something in her mouth so she lives up to her name. Fulla also constantly has her face pointing in the same directions as her behind when running at full speed - for fear she may miss an opportunity to grab hold of another OES ear! Her coat is the darkest of all our dogs and the most profuse hair.

Thrud

Thrud, daughter of Thor, we named her as we felt her spirit was sent from Thor the male we lost at just four years old from cancer. Thor never bred any dogs in his short life, he had the most wonderful disposition and we feel Thrud is his double! She is always there for you, but never asserts her presence, she is gentle and loving and very smart. Thrud's coat is extremely long and changed to grey at a very young age.

Saga

Saga, Goddess of History, the smallest of the three sisters, she is not going to let size be a hindrance, she is always on the go, very playful and athletic and very easy to train. Saga's coat is very shaggy and medium grey, as she matures she becomes more like her older sister Thora every day.

Bentley

Bentley is the father of Hlin, and we thank his owner for allowing him to visit the girls when we found Modi to be unsuitable for breeding. Bentley is every childs perfect dream of an OES, he is soooo very gentle, probably from living with two little girls aged one and four years old. He was staying with us for over two months before we discovered he actually could bark! Although Bentley does have the most mournful, sorrowful howl you ever have heard, but its very seldom we get to hear it. He never leaves the yard around the house, and when we go for walks he never leaves my side, in fact I could not wear clogs in the summer as he was so close to heel (without a leash) that he would put his paws into my clogs and trip me up.

Monty by house

Monty fathered all pups born here in 2001.

Tyr

Tyr was father of all puppies on our farm until year 2000

Tyr in foreground with Freya, Loki and Odin

Tyr (God of War) looks and acts like a big cuddly teddy bear, his coat is extremely thick, both of his ears are dark and his eyes both have the black outline.

Tyr has a very mischievous manner, he has the ability to twist his body so that both his head and his butt face the same direction whenever he is happy - which is most of the time.

Tyr came from southern Saskatchewan and father of all pups born on our farm until year 2000.  Tyr is now retired from our breeding program and living happily on an acreage in Manitoba.

Modi

Modi's Story

"It's not just our dogs that have great temperaments, our cattle are very quiet and the kids love to bet strangers they can ride the bull, the dogs are very quiet around the cattle and don't help to move them unless asked".

Everyone lives in harmony - couldn't we humans learn from this?
